Our Team

Dr. Moront is a graduate of Boston College and earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his General Surgery residency at Georgetown University Medical Center, where he also served as an American Heart Association Research Fellow, focusing on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in neonates. He subsequently completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Moront was recruited to Toledo in 1993, where he established a distinguished career in cardiothoracic surgery. Throughout his tenure of more than three decades of clinical practice, he performed in excess of 10,000 cardiothoracic procedures, including more than 1,000 minimally invasive valve operations. His clinical expertise encompassed complex primary and redo valve surgeries, aortic root procedures and aortic arch reconstruction. In addition, he served as a national trainer in minimally invasive valve surgery and Maze procedures for more than 15 years.

During his career, Dr. Moront maintained a strong commitment to clinical research, developing and leading a highly productive research team that achieved national recognition.

In January 2026, Dr. Moront retired from active surgical practice and transitioned into a new role as Medical Director of Heart Service Line Research. In this capacity, he is responsible for advancing physician-led, investigator-initiated research, and expanding industry-sponsored clinical trials. His goal is to leverage ProMedica’s substantial patient volume and clinical expertise to elevate the institution’s national and global academic profile. His research oversight includes cardiac surgery, cardiology, cardiac anesthesia, cardiac perfusion and vascular surgery through the Jobst Vascular Institute.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Moront enjoys fly fishing, quail hunting, cooking and following Ohio State football.
