The first hospital in the ProMedica system, Toledo Hospital, was founded. The hospital was established by the Women’s Christian Association and served its first patient on Sept. 11, 1874.
ProMedica was founded. Originally just one hospital, the system has since grown into a mission-based, not-for-profit integrated health care organization serving communities in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital, formerly Toledo Children’s Hospital, was founded. Located on the campus of ProMedica Toledo Hospital, it functions as its own hospital with a sole focus on providing care to pediatric patients.
ProMedica Physicians was established. By 2010, 320 physicians made up the ProMedica Physicians team. Today, it boasts over 1,300 providers that perform over 2.6 million patient visits every year.
ProMedica began pioneering work in social determinants of health (SDOH) by addressing hunger as a health issue. Today, our focus on SDOH is embedded into every aspect of our work, aiming to address a wide variety of environmental, behavioral, social and economic factors.
