ProMedica is pleased to announce that the ProMedica Toledo Hospital Stroke Team has received the national 2023 Voters' Choice Stroke Hero Award from the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association.

The American Stroke Association’s annual Stroke Hero Awards honor stroke survivors, healthcare professionals, and family caregivers. The Voters' Choice Award is selected through online votes in a nationwide competition.

The ProMedica Toledo Hospital Stroke Team supports patients in and out of the hospital through community education, stroke prevention, acute stroke treatment, research and follow-up care. The group has expanded its reach to make an impact at both a national and international level. It achieves community education and raises money for stroke survivors with a financial need through the BE FAST 5K Run/Walk.

Advocacy efforts have resulted in enhanced local and state EMS protocols and a stroke reporting law.

“We are extremely honored and grateful to accept this award from the American Stroke Association,” said Julie Shawver, PA-C, the ProMedica Toledo Hospital Stroke Coordinator and ProMedica Regional Telestroke Development Coordinator. “The ProMedica Toledo Hospital Stroke Team is dedicated to providing high quality, evidence-based, compassionate care to our patients and to improving stroke care for future generations through research and legislative initiatives. This award is a great testament to our work and we cannot wait to see how this team continues to positively impact stroke care for years to come!”
