General Overview

When faced with a neurological condition, you want access to high-quality outpatient care close to home. That's why ProMedica and the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences have teamed up to bring world-class neurosciences care to you.

As regional leaders in health care and education, we are committed to improving the quality of life for all patients with brain, spine, nerves and muscle disorders and disease. With the creation of the neurosciences center, we are expanding our academic affiliation which began in 2012.

By collaborating, our two organizations bring together the best of clinical practice and academia to enhance access and continuity of care, while also furthering national research and education efforts.

Our Facility

The three-story, 122,000 square foot building on the north campus of ProMedica Toledo Hospital provides an easily accessible location with convenient parking and centralized registration. The modern architecture and design of the building reflects the innovation and creativity that will take place within its walls. The building also features a major art installation inspired by the neurosciences.

Treatments and Therapies

Clinical Care

Our multidisciplinary team practices together in one location to provide state-of-the-art compassionate care to all patients with a neurological disorder. Our team includes general and subspecialty trained neurologists and neurosurgeons, specially trained nurses and advanced practice providers, neurophysiology technicians, physical therapists and audiologists.

At our sub-specialty clinics, we care for patients living with or recovering from the following conditions:

Epilepsy

The epilepsy clinic offers comprehensive evaluation by board-certified epileptologists for patients with seizures. Medical as well as surgical treatments are available for patients. Patients interested in research opportunities may also inquire about innovative and new treatment options.

Vestibular Issues and Dizziness

Patients with vertigo and or dizziness can undergo a comprehensive evaluation by two of our fellowship-trained neurotologists who specialize in the diagnosis and management of disorders associated with dizziness.

Sleep

The multidisciplinary sleep clinic is staffed by a board-certified neurologist with expertise in sleep medicine.

Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

Autoimmune neurological conditions such as MS are managed by neurologists with additional expertise in this area. An onsite infusion center is available for patients' requiring infusions of medications for immunological disorders.

Neuropthalmology

Our dedicated clinic is available for patients with eye/vision complaints related to associated neurological disorders. Urgent appointments are available.

Headaches

Headache clinics are staffed by a board-certified neurologist and advanced practice providers with expertise in management of all types of headaches, including those with complex and refractory headache disorders.

Behavioral Neurology and Dementia

Patients with memory or other cognitive issues, dementia, and related disorders such as Alzheimer's disease are assessed and managed with onsite neuropsychological testing available as well.

Movement Disorders, Parkinson's Disease and Huntington Disease

Movement disorder clinics offer comprehensive care of patients with tremors, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, or other related neurological disorders. Clinical trials and research participation are available for those patients who may be interested

Stroke

Stroke care in the outpatient settings is available for those who need diagnostic evaluation and follow up for all types of cerebrovascular disorders.

Pediatric Neurology

Children with all types of neurological disorders are evaluated in the state-of-the-art facility with testing available on site.

Neuromuscular/MDA Clinic

Patients with neuromuscular disorders undergo detailed and comprehensive evaluation at the Neurosciences Center. Expertise for common and rare neuromuscular disorders is available.

General Neurology

In addition to subspecialty clinics offered, we offer a wide array of general neurology services for individuals who seek neurological care and do not have a specific diagnosis. All of our neurologists are board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and are listed in American Board of Medical Specialties database.

Spine Care

With ProMedica Spine Care, you’ll receive prompt access to a convenient, comprehensive evaluation of your back, neck or spine pain, with a quality diagnosis. After a thorough evaluation and possible testing, we’ll recommend a comprehensive, focused spine treatment plan. No referral is needed, and patients can schedule appointments within 48 hours. Education

Medical students, residents and fellows are exposed to a wide variety of experiences and medical cases to enhance their education in an exciting and collaborative education setting.

Research

At the Neurosciences Center, science researchers interact daily with neurology and neurosurgery clinical staff within the departments of neurology and neurosurgery. This means our physicians are focused on treating the symptoms of the medical condition, as well as understanding and discovering the underlying cause.

This "bench-to-bedside" approach is available only in academic medical centers and provides patients treated through the neurosciences center with early access to the latest and most promising solutions to their conditions.
