What is a bone scan?

It's an important way to see if a disease has developed in your bones. It functions much like a standard X-ray, but differs in that a radioactive material is injected into your body. This material settles into your bones for a short time and allows your doctor to detect bone disease much earlier than when using typical X-ray.

It's a comfortable procedure that takes about three to four hours, which includes time for the injected material to settle and for the actual scan (X-ray).
