Make sure to leave anything you don't need, especially valuables, at home. Because we can't be responsible for any lost or broken personal items. If you must bring valuables, please store your personal items in a safe place when you aren't using them.
Before you arrive for your hospital visit, it's important to tell us who can be reached in case of an emergency. This can be a family member or close friend. Make sure to ask your contact for permission before you fill out the form and that you have their correct phone number.
Understanding your procedure or treatment helps you prepare. Your doctor and medical team will explain your procedure in detail and they want you to feel free to ask questions. You can also learn more with UpToDate®. Ask your ProMedica Physicians provider for an access code and learn more at our UpToDate® online resource.
Your family members are welcome to use the sleeper sofa that's in your room. They can also get a discount at area hotels. Ask your nurse or another staff member for a list of participating hotels. Please note that in the Intensive Care Unit, staying overnight in the patient's room may not be permitted. Please check with the nurse.
From 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., you can take incoming calls on the phone that's provided in your room. Outgoing calls can be made at any time.
There is no charge for local calls. Long-distance calls should be charged to a credit card, calling card or home telephone number. Your loved ones can also call the hospital operator and ask to be transferred to your room.
You're also welcome to use your cellphone anywhere in the hospital unless otherwise prohibited. For instance, you won't be able to use your phone in surgery.
We happily meet any special dietary needs and observe any restrictions your doctor orders. We also prepare food that takes into account your medical, cultural, religious and personal preferences. Please speak with your nurse or call room service for details.
Our volunteers deliver mail and flowers to your room daily. If any mail comes for you after you leave, we'll forward it to your home address. Our hospital gift shops sell postage stamps, and in some ProMedica facilities there are U.S. mail slots near each floor's main elevators.
