The NAPLEX and the MPJE must be scheduled or completed by the time the residency year begins.
Ohio State Board of Pharmacy licensure must be completed by September 1st, but preferred to have licensure completed by July 1.
The PGY1 residents participate in weekend clinical staffing every 3rd weekend. They also complete a weekday pharmacy staffing shift once per week between the hours of 1700 and 2100.
The pharmacy department at ProMedica Toledo Hospital has a centralized adult operations process with decentralized clinical services. Additionally, there are satellite pharmacies in the OR and pediatric areas. Clinical services are provided daily by pharmacists who manage/optimize therapy in specific areas of the hospital, including the intensive care units, emergency department, medical-surgical floors, internal medicine floors, oncology floors, pediatric floors, neonatal units, and more.
About the area:
Residents will identify a mentor during the orientation month based on practice interests and career goals. Typically residents and mentors meet monthly to touch base on PGY1 progress and submit quarterly development plans to showcase resident growth and improvement.
PGY1 residents enjoy a shared office with the PGY2 critical care resident. Laptop computers are provided with docking stations and dual screen monitors. Patient care phones are provided as well.
The required medication use evaluations results are presented at the annual ASHP Midyear meeting. For PTH residents, research projects are presented at the Ohio Pharmacy Residency Conference.
There is a stipend for travel that is outlined each year in the residency contract.
