PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education to contribute to the development of clinical practice in pharmacy.
PGY1 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function with close mentorship as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for a general clinical pharmacist, PGY2 residency, and/or staff positions.
The PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency program at ProMedica Toledo Hospital/Russell J. Ebeid Children's Hospital (TH/ECH) provides additional training in a variety of practice settings. Following completion of the program, the graduate will possess the skills necessary to function independently as a competent and confident pharmacy practitioner.

ProMedica Toledo Hospital is a 794 bed academic tertiary care level I trauma center in Toledo, Ohio. It is a regional center for trauma, cardiology, neurology, intensive care, and obstetrics/gynecology serving a 27 county area in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid's Children's Hospital, a 169 bed hospital within a hospital, is a regional pediatric center for general pediatrics, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, intensive care, hematology, oncology and neonatology.
In 2015, ProMedica signed an academic affiliation agreement with the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences, allowing PGY1 pharmacy residents to work on interdisciplinary healthcare teams made up of students, residents, fellow, advanced practice providers, physicians, nurses, and case management.
