ProMedica Toledo Hospital Named One of Healthgrades 2020 America’s 50 Best Hospitals

ProMedica Toledo Hospital is pleased to announce that it has received the Healthgrades 2020 America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award™. The distinction places Toledo Hospital in the top one percent of more than 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, a national organization that analyzes the performance of hospitals across the country.

ProMedica continuously strives to build and maintain a culture of safety, clinical excellence and exceptional patient experiences. “When we live by our Mission and values, we create an environment that is centered around our patients," said Dawn Buskey, president of ProMedica Toledo and Russell J. Ebeid Children's Hospitals. "As one of America's 50 Best Hospitals, we will continue to foster a safe, healing environment for our patients and communities, and create and implement best practices we can share with hospitals across the nation."

“The recipients of the Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award are committed to high quality standards throughout the entire organization,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Healthgrades. “We congratulate the recipients of this award as they provide the best care possible for their patients.”

From 2016 through 2018, patients treated in hospitals achieving the award had, on average, a 27.1 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures for which mortality is the outcome.*

During that same period, if all hospitals performed similarly to those achieving the Healthgrades America's 50 Best Hospitals Award, 188,768 lives could potentially have been saved. For example, patients treated for heart failure at a hospital that achieved the award had, on average, a 33.8 percent lower risk of dying during their hospital stay than if treated at a hospital that did not receive the award.*

Toledo Hospital also has been named one of Healthgrades 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care, General Surgery, Joint Replacement, Pulmonary Care and Gastrointestinal Care.

Recipients of the Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2020 study period (2016 through 2018), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures — as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).
