As a leader in neonatal care, ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital offers a new state-of-the-art centralized lab for storing and preparing human milk. A milk lab is the gold standard of care in milk preparation. The milk lab safely prepares, labels and stores breast milk, donor milk products and formulas. Trained milk technicians staff the lab seven days a week from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The milk lab prepares and delivers fortified milk and formulas to the smallest patients in the hospital.
Infants with certain medical conditions may require additional nutrition to support their growth and development. Our trained milk technicians can provide these patients with the extra calories and nutrients they need by fortifying human milk using an aseptic technique.
Preemies require more calories, protein and minerals than breast milk alone can supply to make up for the growth they missed while still in-utero. Their growth, development and survival depend on this additional nutrition. Prolacta is a donor human milk product we use to provide these patients with these additional nutrients.
Please note at this time we do not accept breast milk donations, but you can reach out to Prolacta Bio Science, OhioHealth Mothers’ Milk Bank, or Henry Ford Milk Bank-Jacksons to inquire about breast milk donation.
