Strengthen Your Heart with Cardiac Rehab

Live longer, live stronger and lessen your chance for another cardiac event. Our cardiac rehab program is designed to reduce your risk of other complications so your life can be as active and healthy as possible.

Where To Find Cardiac Rehab

ProMedica offers in-person cardiac rehabilitation programs at many of our hospitals as well as virtual sessions through our partner, Recora. To participate in the program, talk to your doctor about getting an order for cardiac rehab. If you have an order from your provider, call 877-425-5734 and select option 2.

Talk to your cardiologist or primary care provider about participating in in-person rehab, or visit our Recora page to see if our virtual program is right for you.

According to the

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cardiac rehabilitation decreases the chance a patient will die in the five years following a heart attack or bypass surgery by about 35%.

What To Expect with Cardiac Rehab

Our team of experienced professionals will develop an individualized care plan to help you recover from a cardiac event or condition.

Cardiac rehab can help you:

  • Increase your energy level, spirits and confidence.
  • Learn how to exercise and resume normal activities safely.
  • Understand how to recognize symptoms of heart problems.
  • Quit smoking to decrease risks of heart problems.
  • Learn how to eat heart healthy and live a heart healthy lifestyle.

At your first visit, you will receive a comprehensive assessment by a registered nurse and an exercise evaluation from an exercise therapist to develop your care plan. Your care plan will provide recommendations to reduce your risk of a heart event, a personalized exercise program, and a discharge evaluation with recommendations.

Most patients participate in three cardiac rehab sessions a week for three months. Each session is about 90 minutes and is monitored by a registered nurse and/or exercise therapist.

As part of the program, you will participate in continuous EKG heart-monitored exercise sessions. This will help ensure you can participate in physical activity effectively and safely. You may use exercise equipment such as stationary bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent cross trainers, weights, resistance bands and stationary strengthening equipment.

The physicians involved in your care evaluate and monitor your recovery and adjust your treatment plan if needed throughout the duration of the program.

Benefits of Cardiac Rehab

Participating in a cardiac rehab program can reduce the risk of future heart-related events, enhance your physical function and mental well-being, and improve your overall quality of life.

Additionally, you can grow your confidence in managing your health as you learn more about healthy living, diet, exercise and stress reduction.
