There are several specialties that fall under primary care. Consider your current and future health needs when selecting your primary care provider’s specialty. If you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, an OB-GYN might be the best fit for you. Or, if you’d like to have one provider for the whole family, you might consider a family medicine provider.
Family medicine providers are trained to provide care for all ages, from newborns to the elderly. Some family medicine providers also provide OB-GYN care.
Internal medicine primary care providers (internists) offer care and treatment for adults, age 18 and up. Many internal medicine providers specialize in the management and treatment of chronic conditions.
Pediatric primary care providers specialize in the care and treatment of children under the age of 18.
OB-GYN providers specialize in women’s health, maternity care, and labor and delivery. These providers are also surgically trained and can perform a variety of obstetric and gynecologic procedures.
ProMedica primary care providers are all licensed health care professionals and have one of five types of education and training. Choosing the right type of provider depends on your health needs, preferences and your approach to wellness.
