The Region’s Largest Level IIIB NICU
Our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is the region's largest Level IIIB NICU. As a Level IIIB NICU, we can provide comprehensive care for premature babies as early as 22 weeks' gestation and as small as 400 grams (14 oz).
We have 72 beds to care for newborns who need medical attention right away.
What Makes Us Unique
The Hillabrand NICU is equipped with advanced technology, services and staff to deliver best-in-class care to your baby. Unique features of our NICU include:
- Video monitoring. Have eyes on your child even if you’re away. Our camera system allows parents to have access to a real time 24/7 video stream of their child.
- Specialty services. At the Hillabrand NICU, your baby will have access to a variety of specialty services, including subspecialty care, mechanical ventilation, conventional and high frequency oscillatory and jet ventilators, nitric oxide, neurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA), whole body cooling and surgical management.
- In-house neonatologists. Our NICU is directed by in-house, board-certified neonatologists. These doctors are specially trained to care for sick and premature infants. Our neonatologists provide routine and emergency care from delivery and throughout the entire NICU stay.
- On-site milk and nutrition lab. Receive nutritional support from the Griffin James Hillabrand Milk and Nutrition Lab, a state-of-the-art centralized lab for storing and preparing human milk.

Infant Monitor Program
Assuring the safe transportation of infants is a requirement at the time of hospital discharge, and consequently, medically fragile and/or premature infants generally undergo a car seat challenge to ensure they are physiologically ready to travel in a rear-facing car seat.
