Nicholas Schenk, MD
Family Medicine Residency - ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital
Dr. Schenk completed his undergraduate at DeSales University graduating with a BS in Biology. He attended medical school in Philadelphia at Thomas Jefferson Medical College. He completed residency at Washington Hospital near Pittsburgh and then went on to complete a one year women's health and OB fellowship at Cone Women's Hospital in Greensboro, NC. He went back to Washington and worked as faculty for one year doing full spectrum family medicine including inpatient, outpatient and obstetrics. He joined ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital's Family Medicine Residency in September of 2019 as Associate Program Director.
Dr. Schenk's passions are for women's health, obstetrics and procedures. He performs c-sections and enjoys teaching outpatient procedures in women's health as well as musculoskeletal medicine and minor skin procedures. He assumed the role of Program Director October 15, 2021 and is excited to continue to grow and develop the program.
Laura Grima, MD, MBA
Dr. Grima graduated from Wayne State University – Detroit in 1999 and completed her Family Medicine Residency at Oakwood (Beaumont) Hospital Family Medicine Dearborn. Dr. Grima was employed in private practice prior to joining ProMedica. Dr. Grima completed a Master’s Degree of Business Administration from Michigan State University Broad College of Business in 2013. She is currently an outpatient preceptor at the ProMedica Monroe Family Medicine Residency Clinic. She oversees the nursing home longitudinal experience for the Family Medicine residents. Dr. Grima recertified for the American Board of Family Medicine in 2018. Dr. Grima became Associate Program Director for both the Transitional year and Family Medicine Programs in 2021.
Deepanvita Kalvala, MD
Dr. Kalvala completed her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University with a major in Cell Biology & Neuroscience and a minor in Philosophy. She attended the American University of Antigua College of Medicine and completed her residency in Family Medicine and fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at The University of Toledo. During her third year of residency, she served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Kalvala's passions include practicing preventive medicine, counseling patients on healthy lifestyles & aging, managing chronic medical conditions, optimizing patients' functional status, evaluating for polypharmacy and medical education. She enjoys spending time with family & friends, traveling & discovering new places, cooking, gardening and exploring the local art scene and parks.
Sima Navazi, DO
Dr. Navazi is a fellowship-trained addiction medicine specialist who is proud to return to Monroe, Michigan; the community where he completed his family medicine residency. With a deep commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care, Dr. Navazi offers both inpatient and outpatient treatment for individuals struggling with substance use disorders. His approach centers on harm reduction and meeting patients where they are, empowering them to take meaningful steps toward recovery.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Navazi enjoys spending quality time with his wife and their dog, Luna. He has a passion for gardening, caring for his many houseplants, and hosting gatherings where he cooks for friends and family. A sports enthusiast at heart, he’s always up for a good conversation about football, baseball, soccer, or hockey.
Danielle Saevig, MD
Dr. Danielle Saevig is from Toledo, Ohio. She completed both her undergraduate and medical education at the University of Toledo. She is a graduate from the ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital Family Medicine Residency program. Dr. Saevig enjoys seeing patients of all ages in the outpatient setting and also sees newborns in the hospital. She performs minor procedures in office including cyst and lipoma removals, IUDs, Nexplanon, skin biopsies, and joint injections. She loves teaching residents and helping them to become strong, well-rounded family medicine physicians by graduation. She also enjoys helping residents to cultivate their own interests. In her free time, she enjoys dance, yoga, and Pilates. She is also an avid traveler and has been part of several medical missions.
Khyati Patel, PsyD, LP
Dr. Patel completed her undergraduate studies at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, with a major in Psychology and minor in Anthropology. She then went on to earn a master's in counselling from the City University of Seattle in Calgary, Canada. Dr. Patel attended The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago to pursue her doctorate in clinical psychology and completed her internship at National Psychology Training Consortium (NPTC) where she served as chief intern.
Dr. Patel is passionate about health psychology, integrated medicine, and working with medical providers to improve patients' overall health, functioning, and wellbeing. She has a strong interest in research, Primary Care Behavioral Health Model, addressing medical provider burn out, promoting health for medical providers, training residents to treat the whole person, and teaching contextual approaches to patient care. Dr. Patel has four years of experience teaching statistics to graduate students. She also assisted students in developing methodology and dissertation writing. In her free time, Dr. Patel loves to dance, travel, and spend time with her family.
Michelle Scheurich, MD
Dr. Scheurich completed her undergraduate studies at Occidental College in Los Angeles, graduating with honors in Psychology along with an English minor. She then went on to earn an MSW from the University of California, Berkeley’s School of Social Welfare. After working as a social worker in San Francisco for several years, Dr. Scheurich decided to pursue medical training, receiving her MD from Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine in Hanover, NH. Dr. Scheurich then completed an extended residency at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, OR, focusing her fourth year of training on obstetrics and in-office gynecologic procedures. Dr. Scheurich joined the ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital’s Family Medicine residency as faculty in September 2023 and will serve as Associate Program Director of the Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship.
Dr. Scheurich’s passions include obstetrics and the integration of psychiatry and primary care. She has a strong interest in rural and global health. She performs c-sections and enjoys teaching inpatient and outpatient procedures. She believes that well-trained generalists are critical to our community’s health and is excited to work with the next generation of family medicine doctors. Dr. Scheurich recently moved to Southeast Michigan with her partner (also a ProMedica physician now working in his hometown in Northwest Ohio) and their two dogs. She loves reading, cooking, running (very slowly) and lifting weights. She’s also getting back into swimming and hopes to train for a half Ironman triathlon next year!
Michael Tilson, MD
Dr. Tilson is from Southeast Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University for his undergraduate studies. He received his medical degree from American University of Antigua College of Medicine and completed his family medicine residency program at Western Reserve Health Education in Youngstown, Ohio in 2019, where he served as their Chief Resident. He became board-certified in spring 2019. His medical interests include pediatrics, geriatrics, women's health, sports medicine, in-office procedures, preventive evidence-based care and medical education.
