Longitudinal Experiences
- Human Behavior and Mental Health: In PGY3 there is a 4 week inpatient and ambulatory behavioral medicine and population health experience. In addition, there is longitudinal education for residents in the care of their own continuity psychiatric patients at the family medicine practice site and a didactic component to the curriculum. Residents will be working under the close supervision of core family medicine faculty.
- Population Health: Residents in all years of their training will participate in a weekly free medical clinic that provides continuity primary care for the underserved and indigent population. Residents are also expected to organize and conduct a limited number of home care visits during their PGY2 year. They will also attend a variety of community-based meetings and activities to develop an appreciation of the local health and wellness resources. Population health is also an integral part of didactics curriculum.
- Health System Management: A variety of topics pertaining to practice management and leadership instruction is provided within the three years of residency through didactics, in small group sessions and individual encounters with educators and leaders in the community. All residents are expected to participate in an organized committee within the institution during their residency.
- Geriatrics and Long Term Care: During the three years of training, residents gain insight into the complexities of care for our geriatric patients within the family medicine practice site as well as in the hospital and nursing home setting. Additionally, they participate in clinical rounds at long-term care facilities in the PGY2 and PGY3 years. There is a focused 4 week experience in acute and long term care in the PGY3 year.
- Radiology & Nuclear Medicine/Laboratory Medicine: During inpatient rotations, residents will review patient results from the laboratory and pathology department to develop an appreciation of testing pertinent to family medicine.
- Sports Medicine: Didactic presentations are regularly given by the sports medicine specialists. There are also opportunities to participate in a variety of local and regional sporting events with family medicine and sports medicine faculty and fellows.

Didactics
Residents are given protected time every Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm to attend didactics. They are managed by our Academic Chief Resident with direct input from the residents. Presentations are regularly given by specialists, allied health professionals, core faculty and residents.
Wellness
Wellness is extremely important to us at ProMedica. At the institutional level there is a wellness committee comprised of both residents and faculty from all programs. We designate any month with five Wednesdays to have one Wellness Wednesday, protected time away from rotation with peers. We also have a monthly wellness newsletter.
