When your child has a bone or joint problem, finding a treatment is about more than easing the pain. It's about finding a way to help them grow properly and thrive.
At ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children's Hospital, we understand the unique needs of children who have bone and joint conditions. Our pediatric experts are specially trained to diagnose and treat injuries and deformities.
Our goal is to help your child live a normal, active kid life and grow into a healthy young adult.
Pediatric orthopaedic specialists (also called orthopaedists) treat bone or joint problems in children. At ProMedica, we see children of all ages — from infants to teens to young adults.
It's important to see an orthopaedic doctor who specializes in treating kids. This is because children are still growing. Our specialists know how to spot problems that may go away with growth and time. They also know how to find treatments that won't cause growth problems.

Many children are diagnosed with a bone or joint problem shortly after they're born. If there's a problem after your baby is born, your doctor will ask one of our specialists to visit the nursery. After looking at your baby, the specialist may ask for imaging tests to figure out a diagnosis.
Your child's treatment will be based on the diagnosis and your child's age. The most common treatments for bone and joint problems are:
When possible, we'll start with nonsurgical treatments, such as bracing. If these treatments don't work, we may advise surgery.
If your child is very young, your doctor may wait to treat the condition. If that's the case, we'll explain the treatment steps and when they may start.
Even kids need help bouncing back from a bone injury or surgery. Our pediatric rehabilitation program helps kids move better. It also helps them relearn daily activities. The program includes both physical and occupational therapy.
Our inpatient and outpatient rehab programs are located at the Russell J. Ebeid Children's Hospital.
