A Place-Based Initiative to Empower Communities
The ProMedica Ebeid Neighborhood Promise (ENP) is a catalytic, multifaceted initiative developed to address social determinants of health and create a model to revitalize neighborhoods. It's named after philanthropist Russell J. Ebeid, who believed in a "hand up, rather than a handout" philosophy for helping people improve their quality of life.
ENP addresses social determinants of health and supports long-term neighborhood health and growth in Toledo's UpTown neighborhood. This revitalization initiative focuses on four areas:
- Improving health outcomes.
- Increasing access to education.
- Offering job training.
- Providing stable housing.
ProMedica and the EBEID Neighborhood Promise Announce Diversity in Nursing Scholarship
ProMedica is launching the Ebeid Neighborhood Promise Diversity in Nursing Scholarship program aimed at ensuring equitable access to healthcare-related fields, increasing registered nurse (RN) diversity and representation and reducing nursing staff shortages.
ProMedica EBEID Neighborhood Promise Expands in Toledo’s Junction Neighborhood
The ENP team is working with residents and leaders in the neighborhood to come alongside and support efforts to reinvest and revitalize this critical Toledo neighborhood. ProMedica's contribution is a resident-driven $2.8 million community grant investment in neighborhood organizations working toward education and training, health and wellness, jobs and finances, stable housing, and basic needs. Reinvesting in neighborhoods like the Junction is a critical step in ensuring infrastructure and opportunities exist for all of our neighbors.
Ebeid Neighborhood Promise
Ebeid Neighborhood Promise is a long-term investment that is founded in collaboration. We engage neighborhood residents, stakeholders and partners to create initiatives that are effective for individual neighborhoods but can be scaled regionally and nationally.
The Ebeid Neighborhood Promise received a U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary's Opportunity & Empowerment Award.
Russell J. Ebeid
ProMedica Ebeid Neighborhood Promise and ProMedica Ebeid Center are named after philanthropist Russell J. Ebeid. With deep roots in Toledo and southeast Michigan, Mr. Ebeid dedicated much of his life to helping others. He was a member of our board of trustees and he made his first donation to ProMedica in 2007 to build the Ebeid Hospice Residence, our first inpatient hospice facility. It’s located on the campus of ProMedica Flower Hospital.
Mr. Ebeid believed that the best way to help people improve their quality of life was with a "hand up, rather than a handout." And in 2015, he generously donated $1.5 million to establish the ProMedica Ebeid Center. Two years later, his family made another major donation of $28.5 million to help establish the ProMedica Ebeid Neighborhood Promise.
