ProMedica today announced its plan to build a freestanding emergency department to support the growing needs of residents and businesses in Maumee and the surrounding area. The new facility will be the second location of the ProMedica Toledo Hospital emergency department. It is expected to be conveniently located on Anthony Wayne Trail near the I-475 Interchange.
“ProMedica’s metro area hospitals already treat a sizable number of patients from Maumee and the surrounding area,” said Dawn Buskey, President, Metro Region Acute Care at ProMedica.”Our new freestanding emergency department will bring the high-quality compassionate care they count on even closer to home.”
The freestanding emergency department will be fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology and resources, enabling patients to obtain CT scans, X-rays, ultrasounds, lab services, and more onsite as appropriate. Patients will be able to receive treatment for a range of emergency conditions, including chest pain, stroke, severe shortness of breath, trauma injuries, allergic reactions, severe gastrointestinal symptoms, seizures, severe pain, uncontrollable bleeding, broken bones, cuts, burns and more. Should a condition require additional advanced treatment, surgery or inpatient care, patients would be stabilized and transported to the top-rated, nationally recognized ProMedica Toledo Hospital main campus.
Additionally, the new facility will include an urgent care for minor injuries and illness. By combining a freestanding emergency department and urgent care within the same facility, patients will be able to quickly receive the most appropriate and cost-effective care at one location.
Pending final plan approvals, construction of the 11,000 square-foot facility is expected to begin in the summer of 2020 with a grand opening slated for the summer of 2021. Approximately two dozen jobs are expected to be created with the opening of the new facility, including those in the areas of nursing, registration and environmental services.
