ProMedica Announces Temporary Changes to Help Keep Patients, Employees and the Community Safe

In advance of COVID-19 cases being diagnosed in the regions it serves, ProMedica is implementing temporary changes to help protect our patients, employees and members of the community. Effective immediately and until further notice:

Visitor Restrictions - Hospital and Outpatient Surgery Facilities:

All ProMedica hospitals and outpatient surgery facilities are restricting all visitors. Some exceptions may apply and will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Those exceptions include:

• Patients receiving end of life care may have visitors.
• Pediatric patients may have two visitors who remain the same throughout the hospitalization.
• Obstetrics (OB) patients may two visitors who remain the same throughout the hospitalization.
• Patients whose health care team determines that visitors are essential to their well-being may have visitors.
• Patients in ProMedica outpatient surgery facilities may have one visitor.

Update: Fever monitoring – For monitoring of fever in visitors, the temperature threshold has been changed to higher than 100.4 across all of our healthcare facilities.

Visitor Restrictions – Senior Care Facilities:

In accordance with the latest Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, ProMedica has implemented the following visitor restrictions at its senior care facilities.

• Restricting all visitors, volunteers and non-essential health care personnel except in certain compassionate care situations, such as end-of-life situations.
• Notifying potential visitors to defer visitation until further notice.
• Limiting facility access for the small number of visitors who will be permitted (only allowing them to visit the resident’s room or location designated by the care team).

The limited number of visitors who may be permitted in any ProMedica facility will be subject to daily screenings at each facilities’ designated entry point(s). To help ensure the safety of patients and employees, the screenings will check visitors for fever and respiratory illness symptoms.

Visitors exhibiting any of these symptoms will not be permitted to visit. Visitors who meet the visitor restriction guidelines and pass the screening will be identified with a visitor badge.

During this time of visitor restriction, friends and family members are encouraged to connect with their loved ones who are in our facilities using phone calls, email, texting, video chat or other electronic communications.

Postponing Non-Essential Patient Appointments:

ProMedica physicians will be temporarily postponing non-essential, non-urgent office visits, tests and procedures. The physicians will be using their discretion to determine which appointments they will be postponing. Any affected patients will be notified.
