ProMedica is proud to announce Randy Oostra, President and CEO, ProMedica, has been honored with a local Jefferson Award for his strong commitment and positive contributions to the community. Mr. Oostra also has been chosen by the national Board of Selectors as the local winner to represent Toledo at the Jefferson Awards national ceremony in Washington D.C. in June 2019.
As President and CEO of ProMedica since 2008, Mr. Oostra is known for challenging the status quo of traditional health care. Believing that healthier people create healthier communities, he has driven corporate and personal responsibility within ProMedica to support decisions and investments that are aligned with the betterment of the entire community.
Mr. Oostra was one of the first healthcare leaders in the nation to acknowledge and embrace the need for the healthcare industry to look beyond the walls of hospitals and physicians’ offices to address the social determinants of health (SDOH). Understanding that the conditions in which people are born, live, work and play impact about 80 percent of a person’s health and well-being, he led the development of a comprehensive SDOH risk identification and intervention model that has touched the lives of more than two million ProMedica patients since 2014.
Additionally, Mr. Oostra has been instrumental in the movement to redevelop and revitalize Toledo’s downtown core. Bringing together like-minded business and civic leaders from around the region, he played a major role in the creation of the 22nd Century Committee, now ConnecToledo, which is a cross-sector group that provides leadership and drive the development of a strategic plan for downtown Toledo’s future identity.
The Jefferson Awards were founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Senator Robert Taft Jr., and Sam Beard as a national awards platform focused on extraordinary achievement in public service. For nearly 50 years, The Jefferson Awards have consistently celebrated, elevated and recognized individuals who build better communities and contribute to better a future for those around them.
