ProMedica Eases Michigan Hospital Visitor Restrictions for Adult Patients

A female physician is meeting with a senior female patient.

ProMedica announced today that it has eased some of its Michigan-based hospital visitor restrictions for adult patients that had been in place since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in its service area. The change is in accordance with guidance from the Michigan governor’s office and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The health system has a three-tiered hospital visitor restriction policy in the event of a pandemic. Since March, it had been implementing a level 3 visitor restriction, which is its strictest level. Effective immediately, ProMedica hospitals and outpatient surgery facilities in Michigan will shift to a level 2 visitor restriction.

ProMedica Level 2 Visitor Restrictions Highlights:

For adult patients who are not COVID-19 suspect or confirmed, the following visitor guidelines apply:

  • One designated visitor over the age of 18 will be permitted for the duration of the hospital stay.
  • Visitors will be screened upon arrival for symptoms of acute respiratory illness, and those with symptoms will not be permitted to enter the facility.
  • A visitor under the age of 18 may be allowed if he/she is the parent of a minor child.

All visitors who meet the above criteria must:

  • Wear a mask at all times.
  • Practice appropriate cough etiquette.
  • Maintain appropriate social distancing.

For adult patients who are COVID-19 suspect or confirmed, no visitors are permitted inside of the patients’ rooms. However, alternative mechanisms for patient and visitor interactions, such as video-call applications on cell phones or tablets, are offered.Exceptions for extenuating circumstances are possible and would be determined on a case-by-case basis.

ProMedica will continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 pandemic closely and make any appropriate adjustments to visitor restrictions to comply with state requirements or ordinances and to help ensure the safety of all in its facilities.
