ProMedica Enrolls First Patient in National Brain Study

ProMedica is pleased to announce the enrollment of the first patient in a national trial that studies a new treatment for people suffering a subdural hematoma, a neurological condition.

A subdural hematoma occurs when blood collects in the tissue surrounding the brain. It is most commonly caused by trauma, such as car accidents or falls but may occur in the setting of blood thinners or spontaneously. This condition can be very serious and may even result in death or disability.

“The trial involves a glue-like substance that is injected into the leaking blood vessel in an attempt to shut down the blood vessel and prevent a recurrent bleed,” said Syed Zaidi, MD, ProMedica Physicians Neurology, “This could be a huge advancement in the treatment of subdural hematomas.”

Participating in the study does not change the length of stay in the hospital for the patients. Patients follow a regular standard of care other than enrolling to treatment or observation in the study.
