ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital Foundation Announces Cancer Patient Support Fund

ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital Foundation today announced its launch of the Jeff Shiff Run the Res Cancer Patient Support Fund to assist patients with the direct and indirect costs associated with cancer care. The fund helps patients who find themselves in emergent financial need while they are receiving cancer care at the ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital Cancer Center. Patient needs may include, but are not limited to, health supplies, medications, health equipment, rent, utilities, car payment, car insurance, dental care, and transportation to and from appointments.

The Jeff Shiff Run the Res Cancer Patient Support Fund is made possible by charitable contributions to the ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital Foundation. The fund is named after its significant contributor: the ‘Run the Res.’

For many years, Susie Shiff, along with her family, have hosted the annual Run the Res Jeff Shiff 5k and 10k Run/Walk and the Kids Fun Run, in memory of her husband, Jeff, who lost his battle to colon cancer in 2008. “The year after my husband passed away, my four children and I went to Athens, Ohio to do a half marathon. After that race, we wanted to keep his memory alive by creating a race in Fostoria around the reservoir we all love,” said Susie Shiff. The event has raised more than $50,000 for patients and families at the Fostoria Community Hospital Cancer and Infusion Center.

The 2020 race is rescheduled for April 18th, 2021. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Jeff Shiff Run the Res Cancer Patient Support Fund. To register or for more information, call Susie Shiff at 419-435-1772.

“It is difficult enough to cope with a diagnosis of cancer without the added burden of financial stress that can occur as a result,” said Kim Partin at ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital Foundation. “We’re pleased to be able to partner with our community to provide cancer patients with much needed support.”

For questions about the Jeff Shiff Run the Res Cancer Patient Support Fund, please call the Fostoria Community Hospital Cancer Center at 419-436-6626.
