ProMedica Toledo Hospital and ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital have earned re-verification of each respective trauma level association from the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee of Trauma of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Toledo Hospital remains verified as a Level I adult trauma center and has been for over two decades. Ebeid Children’s was re-verified as a Level II pediatric trauma center, a status it has upheld since 2014.

A team of reviewers, who have previous experience in the field of trauma, conducted on-site reviews of those centers participating in the re-verification process. Using the current Resources for the Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual as a guideline, the team evaluated the centers’ capability to provide hospital resources necessary for trauma care as well as the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. This includes the pre-hospital phase through any necessary rehabilitation.

“We are proud to announce that ProMedica Toledo Hospital has again achieved Level I Trauma verification and has maintained this status since 1999. ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital also remains a leader in trauma care re-verified as a Level II pediatric trauma center,” said Dawn Buskey, president of ProMedica acute care. “We are committed to serving our community and providing the highest level of trauma care to critically ill or injured patients each and every day.”

The full spectrum trauma team at Toledo Hospital and Ebeid Children’s includes: adult board-certified critical care surgeons, critical care specialists, pediatric surgeons, trauma adult advanced practice providers, pediatric trauma advanced practice providers, who are specialized in trauma care. Additionally, ProMedica’s trauma services encompass a wide variety of subspecialties, including orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesia, radiology, emergency medicine, plastic surgery, and several additional surgical consulting services on a case-by-case basis, providing a multidisciplinary care approach.
