ProMedica Memorial Hospital Awarded Primary Stroke Certification From The Joint Commission

ProMedica Memorial Hospital is proud to announce it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Primary Stroke Certification.

Memorial Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review in February 2020. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards including management, supporting self-management and delivering and facilitating clinical care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“Primary Stroke Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Memorial Hospital for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for stroke patients.”

“We congratulate Memorial Hospital for this outstanding achievement,” says Nancy Brown, chief executive officer, the American Stroke Association. “This certification reflects its commitment to providing the highest quality of care for stroke patients.”

“With stroke being the fifth leading cause of death for Americans, we know it’s important for the community to have a high-quality facility they can turn to for neurological care, such as stroke,” says Pam Jensen, president of ProMedica Memorial Hospital. “We’re proud to receive this certification as it truly demonstrates our commitment to our patients.”

“We know that when it comes to stroke, timing is everything,” says Robin LaLonde, stroke coordinator at ProMedica Memorial Hospital. “The CDC reports that every 40 seconds someone in the United States has a stroke, and we’re pleased to be a trusted site for stroke care for patients in the community.”

This National Stroke Awareness Month, Americans are encouraged to spot signs of stroke by using the letters in 'F.A.S.T.' which stands for Facial drooping, Arm weakness, Speech, and Time to call 9-1-1.
