Common Conditions

The vascular system, also called the circulatory system, is the body’s network of blood vessels. It includes veins and arteries that carry blood and other fluid all through the body. Vascular disease is a condition that blocks or weakens blood vessels. When blood vessels are narrow or blocked, blood can’t flow easily through the body. This can damage organs or other parts of the body.

At Jobst Vascular Institute, you’ll find experts who can help diagnose and treat many vascular diseases, including:

• Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA): An abdominal aortic aneurysm happens when a part of the aorta weakens and then expands. The aorta is the main artery in the body that carries blood away from your heart to the rest of your body.
• Carotid artery disease: This is a condition where blood vessels in the neck narrow. The narrowing is usually caused by a buildup of cholesterol in the blood vessels.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT): Deep vein thrombosis happens when a blood clot forms in a vein deep inside your body. The clot usually forms in the leg.
• Peripheral artery disease (PAD): This condition happens when your arteries narrow and reduce blood flow to your arms and legs.
• Varicose and spider veins: Varicose veins are large, swollen veins that you can see through the skin. They usually form in the legs. Spider veins are small red, purple or blue veins that you can also see through the skin.

Diagnostic & Treatment Services

If your doctor thinks you may have a vascular problem, you’ll need vascular testing. At Jobst Vascular Labs, our specialists use advanced testing. This provides accurate results, so your care team can design the best treatment plan for you.

Vascular testing usually includes a vascular ultrasound. This painless test uses high-frequency sound waves to create pictures of arteries and veins. A vascular ultrasound may be done on the neck, abdomen, legs, arms, feet or hands.

• Physicians: Depending upon the nature of your condition, your physician may recommend that more than one of our physicians participate in your care. Our physicians work together to provide quality, coordinated care.
• Advanced practice providers: Our masters-prepared, experienced advanced practice providers and nurse practitioners are highly trained, certified health care professionals who work closely with a physician to provide quality, compassionate care.
• Nurses: The vascular team has dedicated vascular nurses who have years of experience assisting vascular patients on their pathway to healing.
• Advanced learners: Medical students, general surgery residents and physicians who are training to become vascular surgeons or vascular medicine physicians work under the supervision of your Jobst Vascular physician.
