The Cost of a MyChart E-Visit

For medical messages in which the provider asks the patient to complete an E-Visit, the patient’s insurance will be billed first. If the patient’s insurance does not cover MyChart E-Visits, the cost will range from $25 - $75, depending on the amount of time the provider spends reviewing the patient’s history and the number of messages sent between the patient and the provider. Please verify with your insurer that they cover E-Visits.

FAQ

What are MyChart E-Visits?

MyChart E-Visits allow you to receive care for common non-emergent medical conditions through online messaging.

This type of telehealth visit is only chat-based, meaning you will not have a video visit or phone call with an online doctor or provider. ProMedica E-Visits are not a replacement for general wellness exams with a primary care provider, medication refill management or for emergencies.

What technology do I need for an E-Visit?

You will need a device with internet access such as a laptop, computer, tablet or smartphone. You will use your device to access our secure E-Visit platform to communicate with a ProMedica provider through our secure messaging system in the MyChart patient portal. Login to your MyChart account or sign up today.

How long does it take to receive a response from a ProMedica provider?

A provider will respond to your E-Visit within forty-eight hours. If the provider determines that you need to come into the office for further evaluation, they will let you know.

Can I receive a prescription through an E-Visit?

Yes, you can receive a prescription through an E-Visit if your E-Visit provider determines that it is necessary for your treatment. Your provider will evaluate your medical history and symptoms and may ask you to provide additional information or photos to aid in their diagnosis. If they determine that a prescription is necessary, the online provider will order the prescription and send it directly to your preferred pharmacy for pick-up or delivery, just as they would with an in-person visit.

We do not issue prescriptions for substances controlled by any Federal or State agency or other drugs that may be harmful because of their potential for abuse. We reserve the right to limit the types of medications that may be prescribed by our providers. All prescriptions furnished by our providers are issued in accordance with applicable Federal and State law and follow current best practice clinical guidelines.

What if my condition requires an in-person visit?

While many medical conditions can be diagnosed and treated through an E-Visit, please remember there are limitations to virtual care when compared to in-person evaluations, such as a limited ability to perform a physical exam.

There is a possibility that you could be referred for an in-person or virtual evaluation based on provider assessment. Our providers may discuss the option of in-person point-of-care testing (such as rapid strep tests for strep, COVID-19, influenza A and B, or urinalysis) or X-rays to ensure we are providing you with safe, evidence-based care.

If your ProMedica provider determines that you need further evaluation or testing, they may recommend that you schedule an in-person appointment. In these cases, your provider will work with you to ensure that you receive the appropriate care and follow-up instructions.

Are MyChart E-Visits secure?

Yes, MyChart E-Visits are a safe and secure way to receive medical care. All of your personal and medical information is protected by MyChart's secure technology, and your ProMedica provider will always ensure that your privacy is respected.

Can I use MyChart E-Visits for emergency medical concerns?

No, MyChart E-Visits are not intended for emergency medical concerns. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if you have a medical emergency.
