Jobst Vascular Medicine Fellowship

24-Month Vascular Medicine Program

Year One | Traditional Vascular Medicine in Inpatient and Ambulatory Settings

The following topics will be covered in detail:

  • Arterial aneurysm and dissection
  • Atherosclerosis and arterial atherothrombosis
  • Causes of chronic extremity swelling and pain
  • Chronic lower extremity ulceration and ischemia
  • Dyslipidemia
  • Extensive non-invasive vascular laboratory experience
  • Hyperbaric medicine
  • Hypertensive disorders
  • Lymphedema
  • Microcirculatory disorders and digital vasospasm
  • Renal, mesenteric and carotid occlusive disease
  • Thrombophilic states and heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT)
  • Vascular compression syndromes
  • Vasculitis, arteritis and collagen vascular diseases
  • Venous insufficiency, stasis and varicose veins
  • Venous thromboembolic disease

At the end of the first year, the fellow will be required to pass the Registered Physician Vascular Interpretation exam and obtain certification in hyperbaric medicine. Also, the fellow will be eligible to sit for the American Board of Vascular Medicine (ABVM) exam.

Year Two | Advanced Training

The second year will focus on in venous and lymphatic disease and wound care with an emphasis on peripheral venous procedures. The topics will be covered in detail:

  • Endovenous thermal ablation
  • Injection sclerotherapy/foam sclerotherapy
  • Non-thermal venous ablation and vein closure
  • Office-based phlebectomy
  • Ultrasound-guided thrombin injection for pseudoaneursym obliteration

After the second year, the fellow will be eligible to sit for the boards offered by the American Venous and Lymphatic Society and American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine (ABVLM).

If interested, additional wound certification could be attained. Also, time will be allocated to research during both the first and second years.

Currently, the ABVM and ABVLM are not ACGME-recognized educational training pathways. However, Jobst Vascular Medicine fellows will train alongside existing Jobst Vascular Surgery fellows, following all ACGME guidelines.
