Pursuing Excellence through Academic Collaboration
Educational conferences are a foundation of the fellowship curriculum. The intent is to encourage fellows to both take from and contribute to conferences as full participants in a climate of academic inquiry that promotes evidence-based practice and decision making.
Clinical conferences are held weekly at Jobst Vascular Institute. As a fellow, you'll be responsible for organizing the agenda of this conference that reviews interesting cases, morbidity and mortality cases, and noninvasive diagnostic studies.
The Vascular Journal Club meets every two months. This informal discussion focuses attention on current literature that exemplifies high-quality content that can improve patient care as well as poor-quality or flawed reports which warrant critical review. Selection of articles is made by fellows in consultation with the program director using criteria that include:
As a Jobst fellow, you'll also have the opportunity to participate in other vascular conferences held throughout the academic year. These include the Experience Vascular Nursing (EVN) conference, Grand Rounds prior to the annual Conrad Jobst Lecture, and attendance at the annual Wesley Moore/UCLA conference held in Los Angeles.
Fellows are encouraged to submit abstracts of research studies to influential regional and national vascular conferences. Many of our fellows have presented at the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society, the American Venous Forum, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and the Society of Vascular Surgery. JVI is pleased to note that several of our former fellows have won the Servier Traveling Fellowship award at the American Venous Forum.
Jobst Vascular Institute (along with the University of Michigan Section of Vascular Surgery) hosts the annual Conrad Jobst Lecture, an endowed lectureship that attracts notable speakers from the field of vascular surgery and health. The annual Conrad Jobst lecture represents one of many opportunities you'll have as a Jobst Fellow to network with top vascular professionals.
