Robot-assisted surgery is a minimally invasive surgery that can create a safer, more accurate surgical experience. You’ll likely have a shorter stay in the hospital and faster recovery with fewer complications. That means you can safely return to your daily activities sooner.
ProMedica is the first health care system in the Midwest to standardize our robot system to the da Vinci 5. This is the most clinically advanced system available. The innovative technology allows surgeons to collaborate with specialists at other locations in real time.
The robotic system also offers realistic 3D imaging to give your surgeon a detailed view of the surgical site. And with AI-integration, your surgeon knows the exact pressure they are using. These enhancements allow for a faster surgery and an easier path to recovery for patients.
How It Works
Your surgeon controls the robot throughout the surgery – it cannot perform surgery or make decisions on its own. Your surgeon will be at a console a few feet from the operating table. They will control the surgical instruments with joystick-like controls.
Your Surgeon’s View
The surgeon inserts a scope with a camera through an incision (cut) less than an inch long. They use binocular-like lenses that magnify up to ten times. That gives your surgeon a highly detailed view of the surgical site – within hundredths of an inch! The improved access and better view enhance your surgeon’s expertise.

- Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery to to treat cysts, tumors and cancers of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas.
- Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) treats metastatic (stage IV) cancers by combining surgery and heated chemotherapy. It is one of the most innovative cancer treatments available. It can offer a greater chance for hope and survival for certain diagnoses.
